These LEGO STAR WARS photographs are truly a force
LEGOs are the vehicles for many amazing cheesy creations. But now photographer Daniel Sands has taken them a step further. With the help of homemade special effects, Sands creates Star wars photography using toys. Those Star wars LEGO scenes, which we saw for the first time on Neatorama, compete with the cinematography in the live action movies themselves.
Sands explains how the project got started on his website:
I’ve been a LEGO fan for as long as I can remember and have many sets on display around the house (luckily my wife is a fan too!), But I hadn’t thought of combining my photography hobby and my LEGO love until we were all locked up and asked to stay home. So with the exterior photography on hold and me looking for interior photography projects, I thought I would see what I could produce with the sets I already had.
The first images I produced were fairly straightforward studio images, but these were quickly replaced with more atmospheric setups. There is no studio or fancy lighting used – my initial setup was old pizza boxes on my dryer! Add ash from the barbecue and light from an old bike light, and that’s all I needed – hope this inspires you to dig the bricks in your house and try it out for yourself .

It’s really amazing that so much comes from so little. We’ll never guess that Sands’ majestic explosions are actually leftovers from a grill. Sands shares that the collection is inspired by fellow photographer Vesa Lehtimäki.
Sands imbues a visceral tone in his designs. Whether dark, dramatic or ironically humorous, the Star wars The LEGOS (and adjacent sparks) really come to life. The photography evokes an emotivity that makes it so cinematic. For more on how he does it, check out his Bricks From Another Galaxy YouTube channel. There, he reveals tips and tricks for getting the perfect shot.
Sands regularly shares new artwork on their website and Instagram! For those who wish to purchase some of his vibrant works, prints are available in his online store. Really perfect for any fan collection!
