The LEGO Lamborghini Hybrid is the perfect holiday gift
For those who might have been disappointed with their holiday gifts, there’s the option to splurge on a suitable replacement this post-holiday season: a mini supercar. LEGO sells a miniature model Lamborghini Sián FKP 37, the first hybrid vehicle from the Italian luxury sports car manufacturer. Made from nearly 3,700 parts, the LEGO Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 features the dynamic curves, bold angles and galactic appeal of the real supercar. If it weren’t for the toy’s 1/8 scale dimensions, you’d be tempted to jump in to try and give it a spin. For now, you’ll just have to remotely control the model’s engine and transmission.
LEGO has worked with Lamborghini for over a year to plan and incorporate all of the intricate details of the Sián FKP 37. These include a LEGO Technics system, a V12 engine with working pistons, a rigorously recreated cockpit, an adjustable spoiler and an incredible functional eight-speed gearbox. With such know-how, you’ll need to be an accomplished and dedicated handyman to bring this baby up to speed.
A timeless and focused calm will draw the builders into the immersive experience of assembling the 3,696 parts of the model. The rewards of attending this production with total concentration? Unparalleled detail that mimics the V12, 220 mph hybrid monster.
Thin points include the signature, push-button scissor doors, a fluid rear spoiler that provides the downforce to hold the Sián earthly, shiny gold-lacquered drum-lacquered rims, a recreated V12 push-rod suspension system, and a powertrain, an exact replica brake discs, calipers and rear differential, a drivable flywheel and a shift paddle visible from the underside of the car.
Not impressed yet? Well, it turns out that there really is a life-size Lego Lamborghini Sián FKP 37. Let’s listen to it In the wings narrator.
“At the end of such a project, you always ask yourself, ‘What more could we do? “How can we maintain this excellent collaboration? After talking to the design team at Sant’Agata Lamborghini headquarters, we came up with the idea to ‘grow up’ and create a full-scale 1: 1 scale version of the Sián FKP 37 to show off this which is possible with the LEGO Technic system. “
Over 400,000 LEGO pieces later, a 4,850-pound lime-green plastic Sián model emerged, almost identical to the real McCoy. The Lamborghini press said that the Lego version “perfectly reflects the dimensions of the car down to the millimeter”. Both vehicles are 196 inches long, 83 inches wide and 45 inches high.
LEGO reports that it took a team of 15 people around 8,660 hours of painstaking development and construction to recreate the Sián as a block of plastic.
The 1: 8 scale LEGO model measures over five inches high, 23 inches long and nine inches wide. There is a decorative display plate and a unique serial number that unlocks exclusive online content. Presented in a special box, the LEGO Sián comes complete with two coffee table building instruction manuals, pictures, and behind-the-scenes interviews.
The LEGO Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 has since sold out on the LEGO website. The cars, however, are still available on Amazon for US $ 380.
