The first product born of the IKEA x LEGO collaboration

Announced over two years ago, the brand collaboration between LEGO and IKEA has finally given birth to its first product: IKEA BYGGLEK.

If like me you are a fan of both IKEA and Lego, you should be excited about the first product born from the collaboration between the two brands. We had to wait almost two years, but it was worth it. This is IKEA BYGGLEK.

While the official launch of BYGGLEK is slated for around August-September 2020, an IKEA store in Germany was a little too excited when it received its first delivery and launched the product too early. After posting it over the weekend, it got deleted once someone realized the error.

What do we know about IKEA BYGGLEK?

BYGGLEK is the ultimate storage box. At first glance, it might look like a nice, sturdy white plastic box, but there’s more to it. First of all, the cover is built like a LEGO baseplate. This means that you can build anything you can imagine using some regular LEGOs on top of that. It also features a small, customizable window, on the front, where you can use LEGO to build something unique that might help identify the box and / or what’s in it.

Of course, as with all LEGO structures, it is stackable.

Three sizes and a brick box

This IKEA x LEGO storage box will be available in three sizes:

  • Large box: 35 x 26 x 12 cm – € 14.99
  • Medium box: 26 x 18 x 12 cm – € 12.99
  • Small box x 3: 1 box of 17 x 6 cm and 2 boxes of 13 x 6 cm – € 9.99

There’s also the LEGO 40357 BYGGLEK brick box which contains 201 pieces, including two small minifigures, for $ 14.99. Presumably, this will be to start customizing your boxes. You can, of course, use your own LEGO if you already have one.

IKEA describes the BYGGLEK range as follows: “Not just a simple box with a lid – it’s a treasure chest full of enticing game ideas; a house you can furnish; a staircase, a kit for creative people. And much more if you wish.

So what do you think?
