Sonic Mania gets its own Lego set to celebrate 30 years of Blue Blur
Lego is releasing a fan-designed Sonic Mania-inspired set to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Blue Hedgehog.
Stand aside, Mario. Sonic is set to be immortalized in Lego via the new Sonic Mania Green Hill Zone Set.
There are a number of things that need to happen to a franchise in order for the minds behind it to know they really did. One of those things is that elements of his franchise are immortalized in Lego. It’s happened to Star Wars, Mario, Batman, and now the world’s most famous blue hedgehog can also be assured that he’s truly iconic.
Lego has announced the Sonic Mania Green Hill Zone set, and you can see it in all its glory below. What makes Sonic’s foray into the vast Lego world even more special is that the set was designed by Sonic superfan Viv Grannell. Grannell submitted his design to the Lego Ideas platform which encourages fans to come up with new and inspired ideas.
As you can see from the full set above, along with its name, Grannell’s design was inspired by Sonic Mania in 2017. Specifically, his Green Hill area, an area that has been a staple of numerous Sonic games since the early ’90s. The design received the 10,000 fan votes it needed to get the green light, meaning Lego has progressed in production, and here we are.
The set includes a Lego Sonic, complete with Chaos Emerald, as well as an intimidating Dr. Robotnik, and even a video monitor item box with extra life inside. Lego has not confirmed when exactly the Sonic Mania Green Hill set will go on sale, but it has arrived at the perfect time. Blue Blur will be celebrating its 30th anniversary soon, so it would make sense if the set was released around that time or around that time.
This is one of the first major announcements regarding exactly how to celebrate Sonic’s birthday. It was also revealed this week that a new Sonic show, Sonic Prime, is coming to Netflix. Although it won’t start until 2022. There were a number of ways Sonic’s last major milestone was marked – his 25th birthday – including the announcement of Sonic Mania and the release of a Sonic Lego pack. Dimensions. This latest announcement takes Sonic’s involvement with Lego to the next level a lot.
