SCRF 2021 will host 33 unique, exciting and practical workshops for children of all ages
Sharjah: the 12the edition of the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF), organized by the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) from May 19 to 29, will host a series of fun and educational workshops and activities to provide children of all ages with the opportunity to develop new thinking skills consistent with the festival’s vision to expand the knowledge of younger generations.
The interactive workshops will be led by qualified experts from a range of artistic and scientific disciplines, and will start from 4 p.m. daily. The number of participants is limited to a maximum of 15 per workshop.
Bright young girls and boys can learn basic and advanced skills in robotics and AI technologies through a series of workshops at SCRF 2021. During ‘The robots‘session, children will build and program robots using pieces of Lego; under ‘Automated driving‘, children will use a robot kit to create a driving base and program it to perform tasks; while the ‘Artificial intelligence“The workshop is designed to increase awareness of emerging technologies of the future.
Several other workshops will use STEM resources to increase participants’ interest in science fields. Children will design, program and control sets of fully operational “Robotics” models; and in “Programming”, they will learn to program the microbit – a portable device that calculates physical movements.
The ‘3d printingThe workshop will integrate different engineering concepts where children can apply their ideas using 3D modeling software.
Be creative with science
Learn how to mix chemical elements to alter their atomic structure and observe the changes that occur in their appearance and properties in ‘Crazy Lab‘, or mix science and aesthetics in the’Ocean layersworkshop for creating a pot containing layers of the ocean decorated with seashells. Budding scientists will enjoy the experience of creating a car that runs on air in the ‘Balloon cars‘session during’Explorers of Mars‘, they will engage in building Martian mini-vehicles using LEGO and pilot them on a Mars-like surface.
Explore the magic of visual media
SCRF 2021 offers a range of unique and practical workshops to allow children to express their ideas through visual support. ‘We make the films‘is designed to improve filmmaking skills using ‘stop motion technology; in ‘Amazing photography‘, children will learn to use photography tricks to give images depth and dimension; and ‘Slow motion feelings‘aims to unveil techniques for capturing emotions and feelings through photography and video shooting.
Master the pleasures of arts and crafts
Fun art projects specially designed to nurture children’s imagination and creativity and build confidence in children are the highlight of SCRF 2021. The various workshops focused on expression and communication will make it easier for children to travel into the world of life. art and develop their problem-solving skills.
The variety of creative and artistic activities includes’The art of the stars‘where young peopledesign a double-sided card depicting a magical night sky of stars; ‘The art of handwritten letters“Where children are encouraged to create future memories using traditional tools from the past; and the ‘Pop up book‘ workshop.
In the ‘Improved graphics‘, children will use colored cardboard and paper to create a character, which will be scanned and downloaded to a digital device and presented in an interesting story format.
Laying the groundwork for futuristic skills
Guided by certified instructors, young visitors to SCRF 2021 can look forward to developing relevant machine learning skills in a fun and engaging environment. From the creation of a technological tool from scratch in ‘Machine design‘and learn to build machines by combining the concepts of mechanical and electrical engineering in the interdisciplinary’Mechatronics‘workshop for creating houses with miniature and real building materials in the’Little engineers workshop, children will have the opportunity to unleash their creativity through various technology and design workshops. Other interactive workshops include a personality building workshop, exploring cultures on a contextual travel map, identifying sounds, and creating new melodies using a range of simple materials.
Participation of Sharjah government entities
The Child Safety Department (CSD) of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs (SCFA) in Sharjah will educate children on safety basics and teach them how to administer first aid in ‘My safety at home“. ‘Internet harassment‘will allow participants to explore ways to use the Internet safely, while the’Children’s rightsThe workshop will cover the basics of the Wadeema law and the International Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Sharjah Public Library (SPL) will engage visitors with a virtual trip to Al Buhais Geological Park to learn about the rich geological history of the area which is home to millions of years old fossils. SPL will also host several mental games to sharpen the attention of young people while ‘Shopping bagis an environmentally focused educational workshop where participants can create a personalized reusable bag.
