Purcellville hosts virtual in-person events for the holiday season
PURCELLVILLE, VA – The town of Purcellville is gearing up for the holiday season, with a parade, tree lighting and more on the schedule. However, several changes have been made to the city’s traditional Christmas festivities to help reduce the spread of the coronavirus.
Virtual and in-person events will take place in December. The Purcellville website has information on events and any restrictions.
“We look forward to creating new traditions as we celebrate this year’s holiday season in Purcellville,” the city said in a statement Monday.
Among the scheduled events are:
City tree lightingFriday December 4 – The Purcellville Tree Lighting will take place on December 4 at 6:30 p.m. as part of a live event on Facebook. Citizens will be able to attend the traditional start of the holiday season from their homes. What’s more, an in-person event is also planned, although that may change depending on the coronavirus crisis, the city said. Registration is required to attend in person and the number of places is limited. Details will be provided to those who register. If circumstances change, the event may become a Facebook Live event only, and those who have registered will be notified. Those interested in participating in person can register online before December 1.
Reverse parade on Hirst Road, Saturday December 5 – This year’s parade will take place on Saturday December 5 on Hirst Road from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. It will be an inverted parade with participants lined up on the west side of Hirst Road with decorated floats and vehicles. Those wishing to see the parade will walk past the stationary units to enjoy the decorations of their vehicles. To participate in the parade, register online before November 30.
Holiday lights tour, card available Saturday, December 5 – Sign up to have your home or business on the annual Holiday Lights Tour card. Listed town homes and businesses will be added to a map that will be available on the Purcellville Parks and Recreation Facebook page, the Purcellville Christmas Facebook page, and the town website in the events and activities section.
