Park Railroads enter Lake Metroparks Farm Park this weekend

LAKE COUNTY, Oho — Train lovers, your time has come. Park Railways rolls into Lake Metroparks Farmpark June 4-5 with model trains and small-scale landscaping.
“The railroad, just like the way it built the country, really expanded the farming world in the sense that farmers could sell things,” said Andy McGovern, events manager at Lake Metroparks Farmpark. “You didn’t have to live right next to a city to bring things. You could live further away.”
This weekend, Farmpark celebrates the railroad in force.
What better way to celebrate than with a massive Lego train display? The exhibit is the creation of Brad Partee, who has been playing with LEGO since he was a child. With two boys of his own, he now shares this passion with his children and others.
“You have a lot of fun seeing the smiles on the faces of children, young and old,” Partee said. “Our youngest son is the comedian. So it comes up with a lot of fun stuff in the display. Our eldest son loves trains, so there have to be details.
Partee estimates that there are around 100,000 individual LEGO pieces that make up the massive exhibit. He spent nearly 30 hours preparing the masterpiece for the weekend’s events.
“It’s the only time of the year when we’re able to spread it out, put it all together,” Partee said.
From Batman to Yoda, there’s hidden treasure around almost every corner. And of course, lots of LEGO trains.
But it’s not just the Legos on display, Farmpark’s G-Sale Garden Railroad layout will also be featured in addition to nearly 60 other individual displays. Kids even get the chance to build their own train for an extra $5.
“It just shows you the inspiration Lake Metroparks Farmpark can provide people,” McGovern said. “We’ve had a lot of people come to the farm park and learn things and then go home and do it themselves.”
So does Partee, who has been coming to the event for ten years with his family. Now, his LEGO display takes center stage at the celebration.
“Some of them are sets that anyone could buy. We have Top Thrill Dragster roller coaster. Some of the ships have been modified,” Partee said. “We love combining sets and making our own designs to show in the display.”
Admission to Farmpark is $6 to $8 for children two years and older. Advance tickets or registration are not required. More information here.
