Man with purple dreads arrested for assaulting and robbing woman in East Ridge
A man has been charged in connection with a recent theft outside an East Ridge business.
Police responded to a report on Wednesday that a woman was robbed from Tennessee Title Loans and Security Finance located at 5519 Ringgold Road.
According to a police report, a black man with purple dreads attacked the victim as she left the company, taking money, check books and other personal items. She received minor cuts and grazes during the assault and the subsequent struggle for possession of her purse. The suspect fled and was seen running towards a vehicle parked in an adjacent parking lot.
During the investigation, surveillance video provided detailed descriptions of the suspects and vehicles, according to a press release from the East Ridge Police Department. Police then released an image of the suspect on social media.
Investigators received advice on Saturday from an original witness at the securities lending firm who said a family member found a Facebook profile that matched the suspect’s description and identified him as Antwone Boykin . Although the Facebook profile showed no indication of colored braids / dreadlocks, the witness was confident in the identification, according to the press release. Investigators looked at the profile and then searched law enforcement databases to corroborate the information and obtain potential intelligence.
Police said a search of Antwone Clevon Boykin’s database showed an updated photograph taken on April 24, just nine days before the incident. The photograph revealed that Boykin now has distinctive pink / purple tips on his braided / dreadlocked hair. The search also found a current address for Boykin.
Later on Saturday, investigators stopped by the indicated address in hopes of obtaining additional information. As investigators drove past the house on Henderson Drive, they recognized the white vehicle backed up into the driveway. The vehicle was an exact match to that described by witnesses and previously seen in related CCTV footage – it was missing the left front fender and hubcap.
On Monday, investigators presented witnesses with a series of five grayscale photos, which included the suspect and four additional, unrelated people. To maintain additional integrity, the photo queues were presented individually to the three witnesses in a corporate back room. All three witnesses immediately identified Boykin as the suspect.
Arrest warrants have been issued against Boykin for robbery, assault and driving without a license.
At around 4 p.m. Monday, investigators from the East Ridge Police Department, the US Marshals Service, the Chattanooga Police Department and the Tennessee Department of Corrections arrested Boykin.
The vehicle Boykin driven and the clothing worn in the commission of the offense were recovered during the arrest.
Boykin was transported to Hamilton County Jail on $ 8,500 bail. He is scheduled to appear in East Ridge Municipal Court on May 16.
