* Happy beeps in LEGO *
LEGO’s latest addition to its Star Wars collection will allow fans to build everyone’s favorite three-legged astromech, R2-D2. To celebrate Lucasfilm’s 50th anniversary, this highly immersive LEGO replica is packed with special features to recreate iconic scenes from the original trilogy, from a rotating head to interactive elements.
Measuring over a foot and made up of 2,314 pieces, the LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 ($ 199.99) may not fit into a full-size X-Wing, but it will fit perfectly into your collection. Besides detailed specs – from curves in its head to tubes in its feet – this R2 has a few tricks in its circuits. After building the model, fans can retract R2’s middle leg and pop his rotating periscope out of his head to recreate the scene from The Empire Strikes Back when R2 gets stuck in the swamp water.
If the fans want it Return of the Jedi action, there is a secret compartment on the head that contains a model of Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber from the film. There are also a lot of other pop-out elements on the body, such as little claws and the tools that R2 uses to hack the Death Star.
This premium set also includes a buildable companion display that includes an information plaque, an R2-D2 LEGO minifigure and a special 50th anniversary LEGO brick from Lucasfilm.
The set will be available exclusively on lego.com and release on May 1, just in time for Star Wars Day on May 4.
