John Lewis reveals top 10 Christmas toys, including Lego and Scalextric
Toy testers as young as two have been called in to test out the latest games to help retail giant John Lewis put together a list of their favorite classics in time for Christmas.
The department store has now unveiled the top 10 according to testers with family favorites such as Lego and Scalextric making the cut.
The first choice was Scalextric Batman vs Superman (John Lewis exclusive) which retails for £ 39.99 with the Lego Elf Clubhouse, priced at £ 84.99, second and the FSC Wooden My 1st Train Set, priced at 20 £ in third.
The Mirror reports that the Gravitrax Pro Starter Extreme construction set was the most expensive choice at £ 89.99.
Nine-year-old Daisy Heath and her older brother Charlie, 12, from Surrey, faced off on the Scalextric track.
Daisy said: “The Scalextric was my favorite game. I think it would be fun to play with my mom and dad and try to beat them. It definitely goes on my Christmas list this year.
Siddie Lyer, five, from London, said: “Lego is my favorite toy and you can build so much. I really like reindeer and Christmas elves.
The youngest tester, Lucia Stageman, two, of Kent, gave the green light to the John Lewis train and said: “I love to play trains. My father takes the train to work.
Rowan Smith, seven, from London, thought the £ 39.99 space puzzle was out of this world and said: ‘I like it because I started learning the planets in school and I can do them with my cousins. “
The £ 1 billion Christmas toy market accounts for 30% of annual spending, figures from analysts at the NPD Group show.
And the industry is hoping for a better performance than last year when bestseller shortages and port congestion left shelves bare during the pandemic.
Rachael Larkman, Toy Buyer at John Lewis, said: “This year we have seen a huge increase in the popularity of traditional toys and games that can be enjoyed by the whole family.
“We expect this trend to continue into Christmas 2021.
“The selection chosen by our panel includes toys suitable for all ages – a wide variety that will ensure excitement on Christmas Day.”
