IKEA Tiny House unveiled with 187 square foot foot layout, more
The market for small houses is exploding. Not only are there dedicated HGTV shows about it, but more and more more innovative models keep popping up everywhere. Examples include Dark Horse, Minimalist Ebony, Solar Powered Natura, Kabinka and the list goes on. Most of these units are made by small builders, which may make some buyers uncomfortable with the process. However, a tiny official IKEA house arguably lends a lot of credibility to this very exciting alternative lifestyle. Read on to find out more.
IKEA Tiny House project aims to educate and inspire
IKEA’s vision of a small house is actually based on an existing model made by Escape Homes. It’s called Vista Boho XL. Instead of just putting their name on it, IKEA has gone to great lengths to enhance the durability of this unit while still filling the space with some of his own furniture.
The model offers 187 square feet of space and manages to offer a bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom. IKEA has made a video that largely covers the design process, and there’s even a virtual tour of its IKEA Tiny Home dedicated website.
Unsurprisingly, the unit features a light and bright interior that largely mimics what you would find in an IKEA brick and mortar store. The virtual tour quickly highlights each product used, with options ranging from bedding to a butcher’s block counter, cabinets and more.
Pricing and availability
Unfortunately, only one unit was built, and that’s all the company is planning for now. That being said, it is still on sale and currently at the price of $ 63,350. The original Vista Boho XL from Escape Homes for spend $ 47,550 rather. Interested parties will be happy to hear that delivery and financing are available.
The existence of an official IKEA mini-house further legitimizes this alternative lifestyle. Whether you’re looking for a more affordable way to build your own home or just want to spend your life on the road, smaller homes are becoming more and more viable over time.
While this model of IKEA small house may not be slated for production, it gives us hope that the sprawling furniture store won’t entirely cancel the idea of officially selling units later. There is no doubt that this would really open the floodgates for the small home movement, and teaming up with existing builders could propel small businesses forward.
