Griz will take on southern Utah for what could be the last time

Our Montana Grizzlies are heading home this weekend to take on the Southern Utah Thunderbirds for the first time since 2016 and what could be their last time as enemies of the Big Sky Conference. The number 11e Ranked Griz enters the game after a seventh straight rivalry victory over the Idaho Vandals last weekend. Montana retained the “Little Brown Stein” with a convincing 34-14 victory in Moscow.
The Griz will return to Washington-Grizzly Stadium on Saturday and the game will start at noon. The Thunderbirds are 1-7 this season and 0-5 against opponents Big Sky. The Griz are 5-2 this season and 2-2 in the conference. The Thunderbirds joined the conference in 2012 and are expected to depart for the WAC in 2022.
Southern Utah is allowing nearly 39 points per game, which is good news for the Montana offense. Freshman quarterback Kris Brown has started the last three games for the Griz and the offense is starting to click at the perfect time. Brown threw for 256 yards last week against Idaho and 145 of those yards went to junior wide receiver Mitch Roberts. The last time Montana and southern Utah played was in 2018. In that game, the Griz gained 635 total attacking yards and eight touchdowns in a 57-14 massacre.
